About Tahia
Tahia Ahmed (she/her) is a Birth Worker and Sexual/Reproductive Health Educator living on unceded lək̓ʷəŋən and WSÁNEĆ territories (Victoria, BC).
Tahia provides trauma-informed and client-centered care for all pregnancy outcomes including birth, loss, and termination. She has been a Doula since 2017 and has provided support to 70+ individuals and families. Tahia enjoys building supportive and caring relationships with her clients and believes these transformative times in life should be held with compassionate are and continuous support. Her expertise includes evidence-based approaches to perinatal care, childbirth and reproductive health education, mental health support, managing pain and discomfort, as well as postpartum recovery and aftercare with an emphasis on rest, nourishment, and emotional support.
Tahia is committed to autonomous and grassroots birth work and healing justice for our communities. She believes that the way forward requires returning knowledge and power to community expertise where we can heal and thrive together. Tahia’s work as a Doula creates space for filling in the gaps that the health care system fails to address.
Tahia is a co-founder and member of the Nesting Doula Collective, a Black, Indigenous, and people of colour (BIPOC) led initiative providing accessible perinatal support to BIPOC communities across British Columbia. Tahia is experienced in curriculum design and facilitation. She is one of the core instructors for Nesting Doula Collective’s BIPOC Birth Workers Training and has trained 150+ doulas across Turtle Island.
Solidarity Statement
My work is in solidarity with the Indigenous struggles for sovereignty and liberation on the unceded and stolen lands of the Songhees, Esquimalt, Tseycum, Pauquachin, Tsawout, Tsartlip, T’Souke, and Scia’new territories - where I live and work. Reproductive and birth justice are central to ending the ongoing violence that continues to threaten the lands, waters, and people of these territories as the legacies of medical violence, the 60’s scoop, residential schools, forced sterilization, and the child welfare system continue to be experienced.
